“I don’t know if I can”
“I can’t start running until I have the right gear”
“I need to see how I can fit it into my schedule”
sounds familiar?!
Excuses!!!
If you are reading this, it means that you are already on the fence and can envision yourself running, and pushing your body to do something remarkable. You don’t need anything special to start running. Not a plan, an expected pace, the right shoes or the latest swagger. I promise all of it would come in time. What you need is to go outside, breathe some fresh air, and go for a run/walk. Do whatever you can.
Form a Habit
The goal is to create a habit. A habitat of showings up and finding the joy in running. Yes. I said joy because if you don’t like it in the first place, your motivation to go outside and run would be low, and you will be left sitting on the fence.
There are a few points to keep in mind when forming a new habit:
- Make a commitment. Choose to go out and run!
- Remind yourself “why” (health, run a 5K, inspire a family member, etc.)
- Be specific! Select day(s) and time. I recommend early in the morning before your mind is able to convince you otherwise.
- Don’t skip twice. If you missed a run, don’t toss the entire plan out the window. Make a commitment to show up tomorrow for your next run.
- Be forgiving! Changing a habit is hard. Be patient. Even if you completely messed up an entire week…tomorrow is a new day. Don’t skip it!
So what are you waiting for?! Close the browser and go outside to claim your first run. We will be here when you get back!
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old.
The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source.
Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC.
